It’s December! Almost the end of 2013! The children have been working hard on their songs for the Christmas concert. We are excited for you to see us perform our song and dance!
I would also like to reiterate that if you have any questions for concerns about your child or our classroom, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am here to help in any way that I can! My e-mail is cummi1sl@gmail.com and my telephone number is 15000298304.

Classroom Update
We have welcomed another new friend to our classroom; Daniel Hu! Daniel Hu is full of energy and we are happy to have him!  Lately, many of the children pretend to be cats, while others pretend to be their owners.  ShaSha takes care of her cat Rino and Emily takes care of her cat Umi.  Rino and Umi crawl around the room “meowing,” while ShaSha and Emily walk with them to per them and give them water. Lion and Neo have been playing together during work time.  They build with the blocks, only to knock them down again!  Anagha, Shodai and Sara S. enjoy a game of chase almost every day in the jump room!  Eden, Daniel and Gabriel are quite the conductors! They build train tracks and play with the trains often! Finnegan is the social butterfly of our classroom. I can always count on her for a great story! Violet is always smiling and enjoys playing with all of her friends in different areas of the classroom!  Sara and Hima have gotten good at walking on the stilts in the ballet room.  I often catch them walking around the play structure laughing together! The friendships between the children are growing!

Jingle Bells

It was very nice seeing most of you all again at the Parent Teacher Conferences.  Thank you for coming and discussing your child’s progress with me!  We have been practicing hard for our upcoming Christmas concert and your children have done a great job learning their song and dance.  If you have not already done so, please send in black pants and a white shirt for boys and white tights/leggings and a white shirt for girls for the concert. If this is going to be a problem, please let me know and we can work something out!  We have started our first project on maps and each week will we continue to do hands on learning with different map types.  Since most children have learned all of their uppercase letters we will also be concentrating more on lower case letters so that we can move onto word reading in February.

Class Updates
We have started our Christmas and winter art projects off with winter jackets.  Each of your children made one that was completely unique and their own.  We have also welcomed a new student, Jake, into our classroom.  Jules and Aston have done an outstanding job with our Christmas song and know all of the words by heart.  Kai did a wonderful job picture reading a book in front of the whole class.  Ann, Lisa, and Nanding have been “washing” my hair during playtime a lot and helping to fix it.  Riku, Lisa, and Ann also make cookies using our coins and blocks.  Lucas and Aston both have explained all about their favourite superheroes and the reasons why they like certain superheroes to me.  Jules and Riku have made great progress with writing their names over the past weeks and their handwriting is improving daily.  Kai really enjoys the I Spy books and Jules, Lucas, and Aston are greatly enjoying the new superhero easy reader books.
During December we will be focusing on the letters R, M, and D.  We will also be working on types of punctuation, sounds in words, and plurals! We also have many Christmas books and art projects this month!

October went quick as we finished our work on letters B and C. In November we will be working on D and E and we will do a review of all of the letters we have learned so far. We also have red and yellow color days coming up. Our song for the winter concert is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star so we will be making sure to practice that. I sent home lyrics a few weeks ago, if you need another copy let me know. I will also send home lyrics for some of the new songs we are working on soon.

Classroom Updates
Last month we welcomed two new students to our classroom. Florentina, Christopher’s sister has joined our room. As the oldest student in the room she has taken on the role of helping some of the younger kids and is a great addition to our room. Alexander also joined us and has jumped right in the routine. He seems to really enjoy kung fu and is another great addition to our room. Noah celebrated a birthday and spent a lot of time playing house. Jessica is quite the artist and has chosen to spend most of her work time coloring or working at the art center. Vincent really enjoys the songs ‘Do Your Ears Hang Low?’ and ‘Head Shoulders Knees and Toes’ and can often be found going through the movements. Katie is a stunning musician and has given our class amazing performances of some of our favorite songs using various instruments.  Selena and Mayu spend a lot of their work time in the book area reading with each other. Stanley and Christopher seem to love the block area and love to see how high they can stack the blocks. Ashlee’s English is coming along quite nicely and every morning she walks in and says “Good Morning Miss Jenny.” It is nice to have Chloe back in the room, her favorite song is ‘If Your Happy and you Know it.’ Ronald had fun making car tracks with paint for our letter C art project and Enya chooses dress up almost every day during work time

We have made it through another month of school! The school year seems to be flying by.  I am excited to say that friendships have been made in our classroom and we are learning new things about our friends every day! I hope this continues through the remainder of the school year!
We have recently started working on songs for our Christmas concert! We cannot wait to sing and dance for you in our reindeer costumes!

Classroom Update
We would like to welcome our newest friend to the classroom; welcome Hima! Hima has made quick friends with Sara S. Sara S. has been very helpful in showing Hima our classroom and our daily routine.  Shodai, Daniel and Gabriel have been busy with the trains.  They enjoy building long tracks around the carpet area and seeing how long they can make the trains.  Anagha and Finnegan have become best friends.  Finnegan gets so excited to see Anagha walk through the door in the morning.  They play together whether they are running outside, or reading a book in the classroom.  Sara, Rino, and Violet keep themselves busy in the house area.  Cooking and caring for their baby dolls is almost a daily occurrence.  Umi and Emily stick together.  They enjoy singing and dancing whenever they have the chance! Eden is our classroom dinosaur.  Sometimes Eden recruits Lion and they chases the other children around the playground with a big ROAR! Lion is still singing! I can always count on him for back up during our music lessons! Neo is always busy in our classroom.  He likes to play with everyone.  Neo especially enjoys art and music.  ShaSha’s favorite part of the day is going outside!  She likes to wait at the top of the slide and singing, “We Will Rock You!” Each of the children have their own personalities and it is wonderful to see how well they all work together!

October came and went quickly!   It was so nice to hear from your children about what they did and where they went over their vacation. All of the children were very excited this month for Halloween!  We read many Halloween books and made Halloween crafts!  It was nice seeing some of the parents again during our Halloween Carnival. We have been working very hard to master our uppercase letters and I have been impressed by the improvements the students have made.  We have also been working very hard on counting to 20 and speaking in full sentences
I look forward to seeing all of you again this month for parent teacher conferences!
If you have not yet set a date and time please do so as soon as possible.

Class Updates

Homework will now be going home daily.  Some days there will be one page and some days there will be two pages.  If you ever have any questions on the homework or guided reading books please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am here to support your child’s educational growth so if there are questions or concerns I am more than happy to take the time to speak with you about them.
Aston and Jules really enjoyed helping to retell some of the stories we had read during Thursday English class when we were reading them in the preschool room.  It was great seeing so many students excited when new song posters came out and asking what the songs were! Ann has such beautiful handwriting when writing her name and can even write other words too!  Aston, Lisa, and Jules have done a great job learning the words to our Christmas song.  Riku has begun looking for new things on the playground to show to everyone that he possibly can and Kai did an outstanding job creating and finishing patterns! Both Nanding and Lucas did an amazing job with show and tell on favourite book day.  They both retold the whole story with no help!

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He’s making a list
And checking it twice
Gonna find out Who’s naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good

Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around
Oh Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh
and play just the same as you and me

Nursery October 2013 Newsletter

September went by quick as the children became acquainted to the daily schedule and routine. During September we learned the ABC song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Vincent has taken on the role of leading the way with the movements to our songs while Katie makes sure we get the words right. Speaking of music, Noah and Selena have quite enjoyed the musical instruments during work time while Enya and Ashlee have found great joy in playing dress up. Jessica has also learned the movements to the different songs quite well and can be found dancing along often. During work time Stanley and Christopher tried on numerous occasions to build the tallest block building they could possibly build and enjoyed watching the blocks fall. Chloe enjoyed finger painting day and made two fish, while Mayu was a bit hesitant to get paint on her fingers although she did eventually join in. Selina made a beautiful self portrait during arts and crafts and William joined the class late, but has seemed to form a connection with Christopher and also enjoys blocks during work time.

For the month of October we will be working on learning the movements and words to Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and continuing with our practice of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for the Winter Concert. This month we will be working on the Letter’s B and C as we finish our letter B collage and move on to the letter C. The children will also be learning about primary colors during arts and crafts time. We have red table discovery day coming up this month and more finger painting. September was a really great month! We spent much of our time getting to know each other and learning the routines at school. We have been enjoying playing at our different centers (Art, House, Block/Toy, Science, Writing, and Book Areas). We love to play and have a lot of fun with it! We also have been working very hard on practicing our name.  We’ve done some science and math lessons involving classifying and sorting things.  We made fall leaves and worked on our About Me Books!

This month, we had fun reading on the carpet, singing, “I’m a Little Teapot” and getting to know each other. I also really enjoyed meeting many of you at the Parent Teacher Potluck. J

On a sad note, we said good-bye to our classmates Shota and Nozomi at the end of last month.

CLASS UPDATES
Last month, I was very impressed by Conrad’s reading abilities. Lisa and Shota are already able to write their names and Aston is working so hard on writing the letter S in his name.  There will be many more opportunities for the students to practice their names and I am excited to see improvement for all of them! Our class’s favourite song to sing in the hallway seems to be the ABC’s.  Everyday, Jules and Conrad quickly request the song.  I have noticed how many students are making friends at school and love to play together. Jules, Conrad and Aston love to build houses and castles out of blocks all around the train tracks.  Kai practices cooking the fake food in much the same way you would cook real food.  He and Florentina have aso helped “repair” our house.  Lisa, Riku, Ann and Shota have really enjoyed playing with the coins in the science area and sticking them into different containers from the house area.  Nanding and Nozomi have made some beautiful collages out of material we have in the art area.
During October we will be focusing on the letters I, P, and T.  We will also be working on words we know and sharing our writing! In Math and Science we will work on writing and counting numbers and predictions.  We will also be continuing our work on sorting!!  Also, we will have our October Halloween Carnival at the end of the month so we will be doing many Halloween themed activities.

MR. GOLDEN SUN
Over the next few weeks we will be learning the song “Mr. Golden Sun”
Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun
Please shine down on me!
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Hiding behind a tree.
These little children
are asking you.
Please come out
so we can play with you.
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me!
